Did you know that if your account has had no activity for a period of three years, the funds are turned over to the District of Columbia government? DC law requires that these dormant accounts are treated as abandoned property.

Online Banking Duplicate Transactions
Through the end of the day on Tuesday, April 26th, many members will continue to see their transaction history through April 15th duplicated within each of their accounts when viewed through Online Banking. We are working to correct this issue.

The CU's IMF HQ2 Branch will be closed on Friday, April 15, 2011 due to the World Bank and IMF's Spring Meetings. Our Main Branch and IFC Branch will remain open.

Foreign Transaction Fees
Effective July 1st, 2010, BFSFCU Credit Card statements began showing the 1% foreign transaction fee for all transactions made outside of the United States in a separate section titled “Total Interest Charged” as a result of a recent regulatory change.

Please be advised that the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has confirmed that there is a protest scheduled for Monday May 17th at 11:45am at McPherson Square. The protest group is the National People’s Action (NPA) and they will be targeting the big banks and lobby groups on K Street.

BFSFCU has been notified of a new computer malware virus called "zeusbot" which is aimed at stealing online banking login credentials and credit card information from credit union members.

Springfield Shared Branch to Close

Changes to Your Statement
On November 8, 2009, President Obama signed into law a bill containing a correction to an earlier law that would have required that financial institutions send periodic statements on open-ended loans (BFSFCU’s L8 and L9s) 21 days before the payment due date.

Changes to Your Statement
You may have recently noticed a message on your August account statement regarding changes to U.S. federal law that impact how the Credit Union handles and discloses the payment due dates on our Line of Credit/Reserve (L8) and Home Equity Line of Credit (L9) loans.
Important Information about Your BFSFCU ATM Card
MasterCard® now assesses a fee for processing and currency conversion on all ATM transactions outside of the U.S., Puerto Rico or the U. S. Virgin Islands. In order to offset this cost, effective September 1, 2009, BFSFCU will begin charging members a 1% Foreign Transaction Fee on all foreign ATM card transactions. This fee will appear as a separate line item on your BFSFCU account statement.
Protecting Your Accounts
We take fraud prevention very seriously at BFSFCU and have implemented certain fraud detection systems to help protect your BFSFCU Credit and Debit Cards from fraudulent activity. This detection system will monitor your card transactions and detect usage which is different from your ordinary spending patterns, as well as rely on card industry alerts regarding incidences of compromised cards.
